Natural and Artificial Sweeteners

Six sweeteners were selected and scanned with the Spectra Mini NIR system (900 nm to 1700 nm).

Preparation: The six sweeteners were prepared for Spectral Scanning by placing them side by side.  

Note: In the two graphs below, the white spectral curve (right) is the average spectra in white square (image), while the yellow spectra (right) is the spectra at the cross-hair position. This shows a wide range of intensities while having consistent spectral information and detection.

 

C&H Sugar was scanned along with six other sweeteners, then selected from the database, and was then detected in the measurement (upper left).

 

Sweet’n Low was selected from a database and was detected in the measurement (lower left).

 

Pain and Allergy Medicines

Six painkillers and three allergy meds (left) were scanned with the Spectra Mini Spectrometer NIR. The wavelength range was 900-1700 nm with a spectral resolution of 2 nm.

Preparation: The nine medications were prepared for Spectral Scanning by removing the outer coating and pressed into powder form.  

Note: In the last two graphs of this section, the white spectral curve (right) is the average spectra in white square (image), while the yellow spectra (right) is the spectra at the cross-hair position. This shows a wide range of intensities while having consistent spectral information and detection.

 

Six painkillers and three allergy meds were scanned. Tylenol was selected from the database and detected in the measurement (middle left). The spectra from all items are then compared.

 

Six painkillers and three allergy meds were scanned. Ibuprofen was selected from the database and detected in the measurement (upper left). Note all the items containing Ibuprofen (top row) have high detection scores (white/red).

 

Benadryl was scanned among six painkillers and three allergy meds. It was then selected from the database and detected in the measurement (lower left).

 

Kitchen Spices

 A variety of spices were scanned (above).  Photo of the scanned items (upper left).  Consecutive images (8 out of 2048) at wavelengths from ultra violet to infrared are then shown.
Spectra Spices 1e

A particular spice (turmeric) was selected from a database (left). Spectra Insight Software then scanned the spices using the Spectra Mini VIS Spectrometer and found all areas (white regions) that match the spectra of the selected spice. Note the match score of 98% in the vertical cross-section plot for the white region.

Flora

A variety of leaves and flowers were scanned (above) using the Spectra Mini Spectrometer.  Photo of the scanned items (upper left).  Consecutive images (8 out of 2048) at wavelengths from ultra violet to infrared are then shown.

A particular lead was selected from a database (left). Spectra Insight Software then scanned the items using the Spectra Mini VIS Spectrometer and found all areas (white regions) that match the spectra of the selected leaf. Note the match score of 98% in the vertical cross-section plot for the white region.
